Vitae - confidential counselling for the profession

Confidential counselling for the veterinary profession

To ensure the wellbeing of all our veterinary practitioners, we, together with the Veterinary Council of New Zealand (VCNZ), offer a Veterinary Wellness programme.

The programme is designed to help identify and manage stress in the workplace. Available to NZVA members and new veterinary graduates, this programme offers you a confidential counselling service and a 24-hour phone service that’s open seven days a week. As an NZVA member you can receive three free visits each year.

Counselling is offered through Vitae, the national provider of workplace wellbeing services. Appointments can be made via the 24-hour free phone service 0508 664 981 or on completion of a self-referral counselling form. Find the counselling form here.

Our information booklet, Vets wellbeing, resilience and managing in a complex environment, will provide you with some useful tips to ensure a work/life balance.

Vitae provide the NZVA with quarterly reports. These provide us with a valuable snapshot of current issues, early warning of potential hot spots, and will allow us over time to track trends and highlight workplace health and safety issues that will have a direct impact on veterinarians, such as stress, financial problems and depression.
