Cancellation of World Veterinary Association Congress (WVAC) 2020

Over the weekend, the New Zealand Veterinary Association (NZVA) received advice from the World Veterinary Association (WVA) that due to the declaration of the coronavirus pandemic last week (and after close consultation with their council) they have decided to cancel the WVA activities associated with WVAC and instructed the NZVA to cancel the congress. WVA have already indicated that NZVA will be given the opportunity to host the congress in 2023.

NZVA believe that, given the circumstances, this is the responsible decision to make on behalf of members, to prevent delegates from travelling and increasing the risk of encountering and spreading coronavirus. This will help to ensure the veterinary workforce is safeguarded and can therefore continue to play a crucial role in New Zealand’s economy and the health of New Zealand’s animals.

We are committed to providing members with a full or partial refund as soon as we are able. However, we are currently working through all of the costs associated with the event and will be able to provide more information in the next few weeks.

For further information contact Leanne Fecser on wvac2020@vets.org.nz.

We appreciate your understanding at this difficult time.
