Mycoplasma cynos outbreak in racing Greyhounds
We had a few queries about an outbreak of infectious tracheobronchitis (ITB) caused by M. cynos in Greyhounds, so we’ve asked Greyhound Racing NZ for more information. Here is what we’ve learned from them to date.
Antimicrobial stewardship – when to reach for red?
Veterinarians play a key role in the responsible use of antimicrobials in animals. Prudent use guidelines and a traffic light use system have been developed by the New Zealand Veterinary Association (NZVA) to assist veterinarians in their antimicrobial use decision making. The Veterinary Council New Zealand (VCNZ) and the Agricultural Compounds and Veterinary Medicines Group of the Ministry for Primary Industries (ACVMG) are co-regulators for the use of veterinary medicines and veterinarians.
Critical shortage of veterinarians: NZVA advocacy update
The NZVA Board recently decided the critical shortage of veterinarians, made worse by COVID-19 border restrictions, is the number one priority for the NZVA at this time. The NZVA office team have pulled out all stops to work on helping the situation.
