The Massey University School of Veterinary Science hopes to create a scholarship in the name of 16-year-old aspiring veterinarian Hamza Mustafa, who was tragically killed in the Christchurch shootings.
A talented horse rider and popular student at Cashmere High School, Hamza moved to New Zealand last year as a Syrian refugee with his family, including his father Khaled who was also killed in the shootings.
At least $30,000 is required to establish the fund, which would provide recipients of the Hamza Mustafa Memorial Scholarship with $1,500 each year to support Veterinary Science study at Massey University.
The School has set up a Give-a-little page and hopes to raise more than $30,000 so it can also support Hamza’s mother, Salwa Mustafa and her two remaining children, who are being raised by her alone. Donations can be made to the scholarship fund on the Give-a-little page.
