An update from Vitae, provider of workplace wellbeing and employee assistance services.

Many kiwi workplaces are investing in building wellbeing programmes and also importantly building their capability to be an effective link for their people to the resources that are “out there”. Navigating what can feel like a maze is a useful contribution a workplace can make and is a great practical strategy to kick off your wellbeing work in 2019.

A wellbeing resource library is great early project to add value to wellbeing services to your people at little or no cost.

There are many excellent Kiwi produced resources that are available that you can order online and get delivered to your workplace. We encourage you to think about hard copy resources that people can pick up, peruse and take away as well as having online resources.

There are three sites in particular that have excellent resources that could help you build your workplace wellbeing library.

The New Zealand Mental Health Foundation has a range of posters, booklets and materials on a wide range of topics to do with mental health and information to support mental health awareness week - note that its in September this year.

The New Zealand Drug Foundation has a wide range of information including posters, wallet cards and great resources including workbooks and DVDs on “Pot help”, “Meth Help” and other general resources.

The Health Promotion Agency - HPA has a large selection of excellent resources on alcohol and drinking and covers topics like standard drinks , great workbooks and a large number of posters and resources. You can order these online and postage costs
are covered making it easy to maintain a resource in your place.

Also a very good video on mental health in NZ for kiwis is available on the following link.

Veterinary specific resources include:

Vets wellbeing, resilience and managing in a complex environment: an information booklet providing some useful tips on how to ensure a healthy work/life balance.

Information on free counselling for veterinarians: All veterinarians in New Zealand can get free, confidential counselling (up to three fully funded face-to-face sessions with a trained psychologist) and access to a 24-hour phone service that’s open seven days a week.
This is offered through Vitae and is funded by the NZVA and the Veterinary Council of New Zealand. Appointments can be made through the 24-hour free phone service 0508 664 981 or on completion of a self-referral counselling form. Find the counselling form here.
