Pet food manufacturer Hill's Pet Nutrition is recalling some of its dog food products to avoid potentially elevated levels of Vitamin D that could lead to serious health issues in dogs.

The affected canned dog foods were distributed through retail pet stores and veterinary clinics nationwide in New Zealand. No dry foods, cat foods, or treats are affected.

The voluntary recall notice was issued after a complaint in the US that a dog had exhibited signs of elevated Vitamin D levels, which led the manufacturer to identify an issue with an ingredient supplier.

Hill’s Pet Nutrition is recommending owners of dogs that have consumed any of the affected canned Hill'sTM Prescription DietTM and Hill'sTM Science DietTM cease feeding their pets these products.

A list of the affected products can be found on the Hill's Pet Nutrition website www.hillspet.co.nz.
