About the Course:

The course involves classroom and on-farm training with the aim of developing a practical structured approach to troubleshooting and improving mastitis management and control on New Zealand dairy farms.

There is an additional optional milking machine workshop day which provides additional training in assessing milking machine function as part of a mastitis investigation.

This course is pre-requisite to obtaining accreditation to allow veterinarians to provide services to Fonterra under the demerit relief scheme. Accreditation also requires presentation of 3 case studies.

Learning Outcomes:

The key learning outcomes include developing a thorough understanding of a structured process to approaching and investigating mastitis problems on-farm.

Additionally participants will practice key diagnostic skills required for mastitis investigation including standardisation of rapid mastitis test scores, teat end scoring, milking time measurements and more.
