About the course

This one-day workshop will provide you with an understanding of the common systems derangements in emergency and critically ill patients. Understanding what is happening with these animals will allow you to confidently manage and monitor them manage them. The practical session will focus on the nursing care of high dependency patients: monitoring, record keeping, catheter placement and care, and how to manage the various tubes that these animals have. The technique of providing cardiopulmonary resuscitation will be reviewed and tips and tricks given.

  • Perform confident triage of emergency cases presenting to the practice

  • Develop confidence in care and management of high-dependency patients and their equipment e.g. chest tubes, feeding tubes, urinary catheters, central lines

  • Better understand treatment decisions e.g. fluid therapy and analgesia choices
