About this course

Be fully prepared for the next reproduction season with this new style course for large animals veterinary technicians.

You'll gain an in-depth understanding of the reproductive cycles of cattle and sheep as well as increased knowledge about the diseases that can occur around parturition.

Improve your practical skills required for reproduction work in large animal veterinary practice.

Become more knowledgeable about the different types of veterinary programmes/interventions and their role in animal health and reproductive outcomes.

Large animal veterinary technicians that attend will be better prepared to help and support their veterinarians and add value to their practices by way of a deeper understanding of a crucial area of farm productivity.

Dates & locations

Online course: Monday 23 July - Sunday 5 August

North Island: Monday 6 August, Claudelands Event Centre, Hamilton

South Island: Monday 13 August, Sudima Christchurch Airport, Christchurch

Format & programme

2-week online learning block followed by a 1-day workshop.

The online component is presented on an engaging platform (that you can fit around your schedule) and will cover the theory which will be put into practice during the workshop. Delegates are expected to participate in both the online learning block and the workshop to benefit from the course.

9am Lecture 1 Quick overview of the dairy repro cycle
9.30am Lecture 2 Demonstration of metrichecking, interpretation, then practical session on that and insertion of metricures
10.40am Morning tea
11am Lecture 3 Repro programmes, injection safety, insertion of CIDRs, withdrawal, ovary scanning
12.15pm Lunch
1pm Practical Sheep session including ET programmes, synchro, breeding, laproscopic AI
4pm Afternoon tea

4.30pm Wrap up/Summary
5pm End of day
