Become a veterinary technician
Massey University's Bachelor of Veterinary Technology is a three year course launched in 2009 to address the shortage of veterinary professionals in New Zealand, filling niche areas within the veterinary and greater animal industries as well as creating a career pathway for veterinary nurses.
Students learn alongside veterinary science students, learning specific veterinary knowledge and technical, critical thinking and problem solving skills.

The types of roles available to graduates include, but are not limited to:
- Clinic supervisors (includes farm animal, equine and companion animal practice)
- Animal behaviour advisors
- Speciality practice technologists (such as dermatology, surgery, oncology, dentistry, internal medicine, emergency and critical care, radiology, anaesthesia)
- Biomedical research technologists
- Biosecurity officers
- Health technologists in zoos, animal control or humane societies
- Herd health technologists
- Veterinary business management
- Laboratory management
- Pharmaceutical sales and marketing
- Teaching
- Research animal technologists
