NZVA Coat of Arms NZVA Logo

Policy

The New Zealand Veterinary Association “Coat of Arms” and the NZVA “logo” (incorporating the coat of arms and the Association name enclosed in a rectangle) may only be used for official New Zealand Veterinary Association business.

The coat of arms is reserved for use on official NZVA documents and certificates.

The logo is for everyday use on publications, stationery, written material issued from the NZVA office, and certain documents issued by other organisations and specifically approved by NZVA Chief Executive Officer.

The logo modified with, for example, the words “Sponsor” or “Supporter”, may be approved or removed by the Chief Executive Officer for use in specified situations by members, sponsors or in support of specific services.

Explanation

The NZVA Coat of Arms, also known as “the badge of the New Zealand Veterinary Association” was approved at the annual general meeting of the NZVA in 1953.  It is described in Section A3.6 of the Members’ Manual.

The logo, which incorporates the Coat of Arms, was developed in 2001 to give the Association a more easily recognisable “brand”, which was distinctive and whose shape was more suitable for using in a variety of situations on printed material.

To maintain and enhance the NZVA image, the use of the Association's Coat of Arms and logo is limited to official NZVA business.  Use of either on advertisements for promoting commercial products and services, or unauthorised use by other organisations, would ultimately devalue the brand and consequently the profession.

The modified logo is available to assist members of the Association and approved sponsors to promote their relationship with the NZVA and thus to enhance the veterinary profession overall.

Guidelines

Members are encouraged to use the logo modified with the word "Member" above the crest on the following:

  • Personal letterhead and business cards
  • Practice letterhead where all veterinarians are members of the NZVA
  • Practice signage where all of the veterinarians in the practice are members of the NZVA

Sponsors may be approved by the Chief Executive Officer of NZVA to use, under limited conditions, the logo with the word "Sponsor" above the crest.  Approval will only be given if it is clearly in the interest of and enhances the reputation of the NZVA.

On occasions the Board or NZVA Chief Executive Officer will endorse a document or publication issued by another organisation when it accords with the interests or goals of NZVA. In this situation the Chief Executive Officer may approve use of the NZVA logo on the document to signify endorsement.

Hyperlinks

The modified NZVA logo may be used for the purpose of denoting electronic hyperlinks to the NZVA website from another website provided that such use specifies that it is for the purpose of providing the link. Under the modified logo (where it is used for this purpose) there shall be written the words “NZVA Link”.

The logo is available, for a fee, from the New Zealand Veterinary Association office in electronic format.  It is available in one colour (blue or black), two colour (blue and gold) or full colour.  To maintain a high standard the colours of the logo must not be changed.
