Doug and Wendy are directors of Bonavaree Farm Co which operates in Eastern Marlborough. 2300 ha Bonavaree bases its production on legumes and gets some of the best animal performance from these pastures of any New Zealand farm. It runs sheep and cattle and dairy support and around 18,000 stock units at peak year. The business is run by oldest son Fraser and his wife Shelley. In 2014 they set up Resilient Farmer. 2018 will see the roll out of our “Woolshed Workshops” which will be two-day mind challengers based from Blenheim. In July 2017 Doug launched his book “The Resilient Farmer” which has become a best seller, now selling worldwide. Doug spends much of his life speaking in support of his book. In 2017 Doug was made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for his services to agriculture and mental health.

Fiona has been involved in sales since the age of thirteen when she started out in retail working holidays and after school. Her sales career has seen her working in a diverse range of industries from TNT couriers, financial services of Dun & Bradstreet through to Regional Television and the well-known radio channel MORE FM. All of her roles involved selling intangibles which made building strong relationships the key to her sales success. In every arena of sales she was a national and international achiever. Fiona became involved with Dale Carnegie® 15 years ago. During this time earning a National achievement as Business Coach of the Year six years running. Internationally she was recognized for her sales achievements four years running while she recently earned herself the status of being in the Top 1% of trainers amongst 3,500 trainers worldwide. Since then she has trained in Internal Communications, Lominger Behavioural competencies and Neuro Linguistic Training (NLP) to a Practitioner level. While she is not involved in sales these days her main focus is training, from Management to Customer service. Her passion is seeing people succeed and realize their true potential. She has worked with over four thousand people and hundreds of companies and still gets a buzz out of motivating others.

Michelle is an HR Consultant for SVS Consulting. She has over 13 years of HR consultancy experience which involves providing specialist HR advice to a wide range of different organisations. Prior to that she was the HR Manager at Dexcel (now DairyNZ) for around seven years working in the dairy science and research arena, and before that worked at AgResearch and JP Morgan (an investment banker in London). In her consultancy, her work has spanned across all HR functions including recruitment, restructuring, strategic planning, conflict management, staffing issues and performance management. She works regularly with a number of Vet practices, as well as extensively with iwi organisations in the post settlement era, Councils, Not-for-Profit and privately owned organisations. This HR work has provided her with a unique insight into the strategic, commercial and operational challenges that face workplaces and managers today.

Brendan is representing the Veterinary Business Group and presenting the results of a job-sizing project they have being carrying out.

Eloise is the Associate Dean - Admission and Students for the veterinary programme at Massey University. Her background and teaching area is clinical pathology, but over her time working at Massey her interest and research focus has moved to veterinary education with a particular interest in student selection and student success. As the Chairperson of the veterinary student selection committee she has been tasked with overseeing the veterinary student selection review process.

Following graduation from the University of Queensland (UQ) in 1991 Michael practiced as a companion animal veterinarian for 10 years in Sydney, Brisbane and the United Kingdom (UK) He returned from the UK in early 2001 to complete an Honours degree in Psychology and then a PhD about training veterinarians in communication and consultation skills and the human-animal bond. During this time he continued to practice as a veterinarian and was employed as a lecturer at UQ, teaching veterinary students about communication skills and other non-technical competencies (ethics, human-animal bond, euthanasia and managing client grief, improving mental health and well-being etc.). In 2011 he travelled to Canada for a tenure track position at the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) University of Guelph) researching and teaching into their Art of Veterinary Medicine program and training students at their Primary Healthcare Centre. He returned “down under” and “across the ditch” in 2015 and continues to practice as a veterinarian and holds adjunct positions at Massey University and OVC.

Isadore has worked extensively across the FMCG, Industrial and Pharmaceutical sectors for over 30 years. He started his career in the mining sector and then moved to Tiger Brands the biggest FMCG Company in Southern Africa where he held various senior positions namely Divisional HR Director and Group Organisation Development Director. Isadore then moved to Australia in 2004 as Group HR Director for Barloworld and then International HR Director for the same company based in London in 2008. Since 2012 he is the Head of HR ANZ for Bayer. He has extensive experience in organisation change leadership and building high performance cultures. He has led many award winning HR Teams. Where possible Isadore spends his time in the outdoors keeping fit and enjoys participating in oceans swims and exploring new places on his surf ski.

Andy is the Key Account Manager for Provet Queensland and has worked in the Veterinary Industry for 22 years. Andy works to help practices improve everyday efficiencies and create engaging and profitable business strategies. Andy has studied Marketing, Advertising and Social Media and has a special interest in helping practices to implement and design marketing strategies to grow their businesses. She has spoken on behalf of the Australian Veterinary Association, the Veterinary Nurses Council of Australia, New Zealand Veterinary Association and Crampton Consulting Group.

Corey is now a ‘Kiwi’, but born and bred in Florida, USA. The veterinary career started off as a veterinary technician working in both mixed practice and small animal critical care during his undergrad studies at the University of Florida. Corey moved to New Zealand in 2009 attempting entry (unsuccessful at first) into the Veterinary Science at Massey. He worked for the dairy industry in genetics, and then the Vet Industry with sales before attempting entry to the BVSc again. Now graduated in Nov 2017, he has worked as a mixed animal locum, and since moved into a role with MPI.

Bruce holds a particular specialisation in engaging untapped capability in the workplace. Bruce’s extensive coaching experience has seen him directly develop the leadership capacity of literally hundreds of business owners and entrepreneurs throughout New Zealand. He also delivers an MBA-level ‘Executive Leadership’ course plus a variety of leadership-related courses through Auckland University Short Courses.

Lab is a facilitator, learning and performance consultant and former veterinarian. His company, Bats, specializes in helping businesses achieve aligned action to enhance team performance and customer engagement. He strongly believes the development of knowledge-sharing relationships is vital to both of these. He also believes that selling can be done differently and is an integral part of the advisory relationship. Lab is a Fellow of the Institute for Learning Professionals and the author of a book entitled “Customers as Learners”.
