Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
CPD is essential to maintain and enhance the professional skills and knowledge of veterinarians. It is also expected that practising veterinarians will do regular, documented CPD as part of their professional development.
VetLearn
VetLearn, NZVA's Foundation for continuing education www.vetlearn.org.nz, offers workshops and seminars, conferences, events, online courses at www.vetscholar.org.nz, publications, and other opportunities for learning.
Veterinarians are also welcome to attend the seminar series at the Institute of Veterinary, Animal and Biomedical Sciences (IVABS) at Massey University.
ANTECH
The Animal Nursing and Technology Board (ANTECH) was set up in the 1970s by NZVA in conjunction with the Animal Science Technology Association (ASTA), to provide national standards for technical training for persons working with animals. Training was provided by various Polytechnics and Technical Institutes to equip students to become veterinary nurses, laboratory animal technicians and zookeepers. National examiners and appropriate certification for those persons successfully completing the requirements were provided by ANTECH.
