New Zealand Equine Veterinary Association

Mission

The New Zealand Equine Veterinary Association branch of the NZVA works to:

  • provide leadership within the New Zealand equine industry to improve the health and welfare of horses
  • promote excellence within the veterinary profession as the primary guardians of the health and welfare of horses
  • promote the value of proven science based equine veterinary medicine to our clients.

How we do this

Health and welfare

We work closely with all sectors of the equine industry on health and welfare issues. The knowledge and experience of our members has been used to develop equine industry policies on a number of racing, sport-horse and equine welfare issues. Our experience has also been called upon to set regulations for the transportation and quarantine of horses travelling to and from New Zealand.

Professional excellence

We promote excellence within the veterinary profession by providing educational and professional development opportunities to veterinarians who, in turn, provide the highest standard of service to their clients.

We host workshops, courses and other CPD opportunities each year, which attract world-class speakers on all aspects of equine veterinary science.

The New Zealand Equine Veterinary Association has close affiliations with all the major veterinary schools and many international equine research institutions. We support research and education within the New Zealand equine industry by way of donations and resource support.

Every year, the Equine Veterinary Practitioner (EVP) Editorial Group sets aside money in its Continuing Education Fund. The fund is used to facilitate continuing education and/or specialist training for NZVA members and to disseminate information from this education or training through the EVP journal.
