The New Zealand Veterinary Association (NZVA) offers veterinary students complimentary online membership and special member benefits.
You are going to become part of a profession undergoing transformation. Veterinarians have unique skills and experiences and are ideally positioned to ensure the wellbeing of animals, humans and the environment we all share. This broader view of our profession provides you with many opportunities within the diversity of roles a vet can play in our changing world.
We all want our profession to be more highly valued, influential and respected and for you, as a vet, to be successful.
About the NZVA
We were formed by veterinarians in 1923. We have a proud history and an exciting future – to have us as valued as we are trusted by the society we serve.
Here are some of the special benefits we provide to you.
An event for first-year veterinary students to welcome you to the profession, introduce you to the NZVA and have some fun.
An informative seminar for third-year veterinary students that provides insight into the diversity of opportunities available to you in your chosen profession.
A day for fifth-year veterinary students, as part of your professional studies, to give you a good understanding of what your professional association does for you once you’re in the real world
Held at the same time as graduation, this event gives you the opportunity to share your experience from being in the industry for your first six months, and get any support or advice you may need to ensure your wellbeing is being looked after.

If you've moved somewhere new for your job, the NZVA's regional branches are a great way to meet other veterinarians in your area, while the special interest branches are a great way to keep up to date in your particular field.
Each year, final year veterinary students can apply for one of 30 places in a rural veterinary practice – supporting farmers with production animals on dairy, sheep and beef farms - with great professional and financial benefits! Developed by the New Zealand Government, this incentivised scheme is helping alleviate the shortage of veterinarians in remote parts of the country.
Being a veterinarian is a demanding job with high stress levels. As part of our wellness programme, Vitae offer a professional psychological support service to help you manage your work/life balance.
In April 2011, CPD became mandatory for New Zealand veterinarians. MyCPD and VetLearn's events and courses will help you fulfil all your CPD requirements. Members of the NZVA get significant subsidised courses, conferences and events through VetLearn.
